Mott St. is an award-winning Asian-inspired restaurant located in the Wicker Park neighborhood of Chicago, IL. With a track record of working with very talented artists, it was an honor to be the selected artist to paint their facade for Spring 2019 to Spring 2020. For this mural, I wanted to capture the seasonal transition from Winter to Spring. I evoke this essence specifically through color, form of the white scribbles, and big yellow shapes—blurring the line between figure and ground. I used these yellow shapes to methodically color block each of the windows to find balance and create a sense of discovery as you walk around the building—sort of like a walk through the woods as the sun peeks through the trees. This is what I want the mural to convey for people as they walk in for a meal or commute past the walls.
